ABOUT ME

“I want to make theatre that challenges the senses and transforms the world around us… Theatre that is visceral and gets to the core of the feeling rather than hiding behind the intellectualization of it.”

Amanda is a well-rounded classically trained actor, director, and writer from New York City, heavily influenced by her family’s origins in Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad & Tobago. She began her training in the drama department at Fiorello H. LaGuardia (Class of 22’) and most recently received a B.F.A in Theatre Arts from Boston University (Class of 26’) with a concentration in Acting, Movement, and Playwrighting. Additionally, she studied abroad in London to deepen her understanding of new play development.

Amanda speaks the language of Langston Hughes, Amiri Baraka, and Sonia Sanchez. She see’s herself in Jennifer Packer paintings and in the many black soap covered faces of Rashid Johnson Her central question as an artist lies in the generational efforts of her ancestors to escape—carving out new worlds in the walls surrounding them.

“Growing up with hard-working immigrant families in Queens, NY, where the tastes, smells, rhythms, and heart beats of cultures from thousands of miles away were being constantly preserved and reimagined, has truly shaped me as a story teller and theatre artist.”
